乌兹别克斯坦地处中亚的中心，是中亚地区未来油气产量增长最快的国家，据权威数据显示，乌国已探明的石油可采储量为5.94亿桶，天然气储量5.9万亿立方米（世界前十），页岩油储量为470亿吨,主要位于Baisun、Jam、Urtabulak、Sangrento、Aktau、Uchkir和Kulbeskan地区，埋藏深度约600米。

乌兹别克斯坦共和国是“上海合作组织”成员国之一，与中国的政治和经贸关系紧密，中石油等中国公司与乌兹别克斯坦石油天然气公司签订了多个联合开发石油和天然气田的协议，共同制定了油气田勘探开发的方案
乌兹别克斯坦是“中亚一中国天然管线”的重要气源国之一，目前，乌境内拥有294个天然气田，其中118个属于乌油气公司，176个属于外企或合资企业。
